Chilkunda Aruna Thyagaraju, a student of Vijaya Vittala Composite PU College, gave a Karnatak classical music vocal performance at the college auditorium under the auspicious of ‘Fine Arts Club’ of the institution.

Aruna Thyagaraju began the day’s performance by the traditional Varna, Navaragamalike in Aadi Taala composed by Patnam Subramanya Iyer. Her next song was the Ganapati stuthi to seek the blessings of the Lord Mahaganapathi, set in Esha Manohari Raaga, Roopaka Taala, the famous composition of Muthuswami Dikshitar. With the variations of the raga with ease and expertise well presented, next was Sri Muthiah Bhagavatar composition ‘Vaanchathonuna’ in Karna Ranjani Raaga, Trishra Nade — Adi Tala. Thyagaraja composition, ‘Brovabaramma’ in Bahudari Raga, set in Aadi Taala was the next in which the bhakti and obeisance to the divine Goddess was well rendered. With Raagalaapana, as the rhythm was well paced with the swara sthanaas modulating effectively, the next one was ‘Mariveradikkevaraiya Rama’ in Shanmukhapriya Raga, Adi tala, another popular bhakti composition of Patnam Subramanya Iyer. With effortless simplicity, Aruna next ventured into the ‘Madhavamaaya Maanava roopa’ in Hamsanandi raga. She concluded the programme with the popular tillana ‘Dhim tanaa dhim’ set in Behag raga, Trishra nade, composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman and won a big round of applause from the audience.

Aruna was accompanied by Vid. C.N. Thyagaraju in violin and Sujayeendra Rao on tabla.

Principal of the college H. Satyaprasad and other staff members were also present on the occasion.

Aruna is the daughter of Vid. C.N. Thyagaraju and Vagshree Thyagaraju. Born in musician family, she began learning classical music from parents. She has been learning under the able guidance of her father for the past many years. She has participated in multiple competitions held by various Kannada Sangha organisations in Singapore. She has excelled in Karnatak Classical Vocal Junior Grade Examination with a distinction by scoring 91% in the year 2015 and is pursuing her further expertise to achieve success. She has participated in many programmes arranged by organisations like Amarakala Sangha, Ganabharathi and many more. She has performed in the programmes conducted by All India Radio (AIR), Mysuru. She has also learnt classical and western violin and has performed in various programmes.
