Karnatak music concert and dance at Alwar Kala Bhavan

Mysore/Mysuru: As part of Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations, Sri Krishna Ganasabha has organised the following programmes at Alwar Kala Bhavan in Sri Krishna Temple, Gokulam 3rd Stage:

Aug. 22 (6 pm): Karnatak Classical Vocal Concert by Vidu. Jayanthi Sridharan from Chennai. She will be accompanied by Vidu. C.V. Shruthi on violin, H.L. Shivashankaraswamy on mridanga and Vid. S. Manjunath on ghata; Aug. 23 (6.30 pm): Dance by Vidu. Mithra Naveen and her students.

PROFILES:

Vidu. Jayanthi Sridharan’s journey into the ocean of Karnatak Music was initiated by her mother Prema Raghavachari, who was her first guru. She continued to learn under eminent Sangeetha Kalanidhis like Maharajapuram Santhanam and R. Vedavalli under whom she received the Government of India Scholarship.

Going on to learn from Dr. M.L. Vasanthakumari whom she accompanied on her concert tours all over India and abroad, she continued her quest of learning under the guidance of violin maestro M. Chandrashekharan till lately.

Jayanthi has recently completed her Master’s in Divyaprabandam in Madras University and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in the concept of Doodu (sending messengers to the Lord) as shown by Alwars and Acharyas. She has committed her music career to Srivaishnavam over the past few years.

Vidu. Mithra Naveen launched her glittering career initially under Vidu. Krishnaveni and continued her disciple-hood under Guru Vidu. Kripa Phadke completing her Junior, Senior and Vidwat exams. She acquired a profound cognitive understanding of Bharatanatyam under the direct guidance of Karnataka Kalathilaka Shantala Awardee Natyacharya K. Muralidhara Rao.

She is happily married to Naveen, a reputed vocalist and exquisite practitioner of Karnatak music. The couple founded ‘Nadavidyalaya – Academy of Music & Dance’ to provide meticulous training in Karnatak Classical Music & Bharatanatyam adopting Guru-Shishya system.

Academically, Mithra Naveen has Master’s degrees in English and Bharatanatyam. Mithra is also a graded artiste of Doordarshan. She has the credit of being an NCC Cadet of Naval wing.

She is a bona fide Resource Person for the National Training Project organised by RIEM-National Counsellor Education Research and Training, Mysuru.
