Karnatak music has divine power: Vidushi Rajalakshmi Sridhar

Mysore/Mysuru: The 32nd anniversary of city-based Swaralaya Music School was held recently at Veene Seshanna Bhavan in Kuvempunagar under the auspices of Department of Kannada and Culture, Bengaluru.

Speaking as the chief guest, retired Assistant Director of All India Radio, Mysuru and Karnataka Kalashree awardee, musician Vidushi G. Rajalakshmi Sridhar said that parents should encourage their children towards learning music. 

Stating that Karnatak music has divine powers, she said that local talents should be identified  and  brought to the  mainstream.

Lauding Swaralaya, which was started in 1990, for celebrating its 32nd anniversary, she said that it was not an easy task of running such institutions on long term.

Veteran Veena player Vidwan T.M. Shankar inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp.  Vidushi and Founder-President of Swaralaya Dr. Suma Harinath presided. Sneha and Sahana rendered the invocation.   Roopa Narasimhan welcomed.  Secretary of Swaralaya H.S. Srikanthamani compered.  Vibhudha proposed a vote of thanks.  Veteran music lover Venkatalakshamma was present on dais. Sinchana from Bengaluru performed light music while Vidwan M.G. Suresh of Mysuru performed Karnatak music.  They were supported by Vidwan Srikantha on  violin and G.R. Satheesh on mridanga.  Shruthi Arun sang “Dasara Padagalu.”
