Karnataka Assembly by-elections 2024: Peaceful polling in all three Assembly segments

Channapatna 88.80 %, Shiggoan 80.48 %, Sandur 76.24%

Bengaluru: The by-election to all three Assembly segments in the State was held peacefully with not a single poll-related incident reported. With voters taking part actively in the electoral process, Channapatna recorded the highest     number of voting with 88.80 percent followed by Shiggoan 80.48 percent and Sandur 76.24 percent.

Yesterday’s by-poll also witnessed an increase of 3 percent voting compared  to the Assembly Polls held in 2023. Channapatna had then recorded 85.86 percent polling during which H.D. Kumaraswamy, now Mandya MP, had emerged victorious.

The voting percentage in Shiggaon had  no major changes when compared to 2023 Assembly Polls.

The Constituency had recorded 80.46 percent then and it recorded 80.48 percent yesterday. Meanwhile, the percentage of voting declined in Sandur during the by-poll with the Constituency recording 76.24 percent compared to 77.39 percent last year. 

In Channapatna, the Constituency which had gained national attention, a total of 2,06,866 voters exercised their franchise (1,00,501 male and 1,06,362 female) and three from other gender. Here JD(S) State Youth President Nikhil Kumaraswamy is pitted as NDA candidate against Congress party’s C.P. Yogeshwar, who has represented the Constituency five times on earlier occasion.

At Shiggaon, a total of 1,91,166 voters including 98,642 male and 92,522 female, cast their votes. Considered one among the prime Constituencies in State, BJP has fielded Bharat Bommai, son of former CM and MP Basavaraj Bommai against Congress Party’s Syed Yasir Pathan.

 Meanwhile, in Sandur, a total of 1,80,189 voters including 90,922 male and 89,252 female voted.

Here it is a direct fight between Annapoorna Tukaram, wife of MP E. Tukaram and BJP’s Bangaru Hanumanthu, a close associate of MLA G. Janardhan Reddy, also a former Minister. The counting of votes is  on Nov. 23.
