Initiative to enable Mysuru-Bengaluru to become India’s Electronics System Design & Manufacturing hub

Mysore/Mysuru: The Government of Karnataka, in collaboration with the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) and the India Electronics & Semiconductor Association, launched India’s first-ever ESDM (Electronics System Design & Manufacturing) Tech Yatra and Karnataka ESDM Brand in Mysuru.

The Tech Yatra will be held in Mysuru on Sept. 18 and 19. The curtain raiser ceremony, launched at Hotel Southern Star yesterday, aims to showcase the region’s readiness for the ESDM world and attract global leaders, driving potential investments and talent sourcing.

Over 30 global and Indian companies, including Global Foundry, Marvell, TI, Schneider, Bosch, Teessolve, SLN Technologies and Aequs, visited Mysuru and explored various facilities such as ESDM EMC2.0, Lahari – test facility, Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering – CoE, industry hubs, and Kaynes, AT&S, LTTS, among others.

Business potential

This provided a valuable opportunity to validate the business potential and contribute to Karnataka’s growth. The event also unveiled the 4th edition of ‘Mysuru: The Big Tech Show 2024’ to be held in September and launched the Karnataka ESDM Brand, marking a significant milestone in the State’s journey towards becoming a global technology leader.

Partners included the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Electronic Industries Association Of India (ELCINA), the Association Connecting Electronics Industries, the Semiconductor Fabless Accelerator Lab (SFAL), the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), and Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).

Strategic corridor and economic growth

This annual event aimed to elevate Karnataka’s ESDM sector globally by fostering collaboration among industry, startups and academia. By showcasing the Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor as a premier technology hub, the event seeks to highlight business potential, attract significant investments exceeding Rs. 1,000 crore and generate over 5,000 new jobs, promoting local innovation and enhancing the sector’s global brand.

Mysuru, with its robust infrastructure, including nine SEZs and ample office space, is emerging as a thriving tech hub. ESDM startup success stories like Kidvento, Vidwath Innovative Solutions, Dvizira, Gritbyte Labs and FAAB Invest highlight the city’s potential.

‘Mysuru: The Big Tech Show 2024’ will showcase over 25 startups, facilitate industry-academia collaborations and attract global partners, solidifying Karnataka’s position as a global ESDM leader.

Leaders laud initiative

Priyank Kharge, Minister for IT/BT and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, stated, “The launch of Karnataka ESDM Brand from Mysuru is a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence. Our vision is to create an environment where ideas flourish, investments flow and growth is sustained.”

“In addition to Rs. 600 crore new investments, we are also looking to set up over 150 acres of PCB cluster, expand current testing facility Lahari, add MultiTenancy Clean room and much more to support this growth. This will drive over 5,000 new jobs and majority will be women workforce, R&D & Ips to also grow strong from this cluster. It’s the right time for global companies to come explore and grow together,” he added.

Sudhanva Dhananjaya, Co- Founder of Excelsoft Technologies, remarked: “Mysuru’s local ecosystem is a testament to collaboration and innovation. ‘Mysuru: The Big Tech Show 2024’ will attract over 30 global speakers, 500 industry delegates & 100 startups, 5 country partners, 100 students, academic partners and all industry partners from the cluster — Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud, Mandya.”

Dr. Ekroop Caur, Secretary to the Government, Department of Electronics Information Technology Biotechnology and Science & Technology, said: “Global leaders interacting with local industries and the new Karnataka ESDM Brand enable Mysuru-Bengaluru to become the Semicon Hub of India.”

The Elevate programme has supported 923 startups with a committed fund of Rs. 223 crore across Karnataka, with over 40 startups from the Mysuru cluster. Gopalan Infrastructure is developing 1 million sq. ft., with 0.2 million sq. ft. construction complete and available for occupancy within six months.

B.V. Naidu, Chairman of KDEM, invited companies to explore the readiness of the Global Technology Centre (GTC), a flagship project of the Government of Karnataka, which will be operational by the end of 2024.

Dr. V. Veerappan, Chairman of the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association, added, “Bengaluru is the design hub and Mysuru is the manufacturing hub. The Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor is of strategic importance for India and will become an important player on the global landscape.”
