Karnataka Examination Authority to conduct K-SET, not UoM

December 24, 2022

Mysuru: Following allegations of rampant irregularities and corruption in the conduct of K-SET (Karnataka State Eligibility Test)  by the University of Mysore (UoM), the Government has now ordered that  Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will conduct  K-SET in future.

The Government, while issuing the order, has withdrawn the sanctioned authority to the  UoM for the conduct of K-SET.

UoM was the Nodal agency recognised by New Delhi based  University Grants Commission (UGC) for conducting K-SET for appointment of Assistant Professors in Degree Colleges since 2020. K-SET is a State-level exam for candidates who want to build their career as an Assistant Professor in Universities and Colleges across Karnataka.

As in the past years, the  UoM conducted the yearly K-SET  in July 2021, when allegations of rampant irregularities in the exam surfaced, following which Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha lodged a complaint with UGC, which had recognised UoM as Nodal agency to K-SET. Simha had made serious graft charges in the announcement of results of July 2021 K-SET. He had also filed a written complaint with UGC Chairman M. Jagadish Kumar on Feb.11, 2022 and had brought the matter to the notice of Karnataka Higher Education Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwathnarayan. The MP had appealed the Minister to direct KEA to conduct K-SET. Now, the Government has ordered that the KEA will henceforth conduct the K-SET until further orders.

MP thanks Minister

Reacting to the Order, the MP said he has welcomed the Government’s decision. “I am thankful to the Higher Education Minister for acting on my complaint and taking the right decision in authorising the KEA to conduct K-SET,” Pratap Simha  added.
