Jagadish (7.5 points) and Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (7.5 points), both from Bengaluru, emerged champions in the Karnataka State U-15 FIDE Rated Open and U-15 Girls section respectively, on the concluding day of the three-day Championship conducted by Mysore Chess Centre at the Paradise Hotel Hall here yesterday.
In the Open section, four players, P. Jagadish (7.5-54.5), Arhan Chethan Anand (7.5-52.5), Shree Krishna Pranama (7.5-51) and Rakshith Srinivasan (7.5-49.5) tied with 7.5 points after nine rounds, but P. Jagadish with a better tie-break score won the title, while Arhan, Shree Krishna Pranama and Rakshith secured the second, third and fourth places respectively.
In the Girls U-15 section, three players Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (7.5-50.5), WCM A.N. Shefali (Mandya-7.5-49.5) and K. Deepthi Lakshmi (D.K-7.5-49.5) tied with 7.5 points from nine rounds, but Swara Lakshmi’s better tie-break score enabled her to clinch the title. Shefali and Deepthi Lakshmi finished second and third respectively.
Mysuru lads — M. Shivanth (6.5-17th), Vishwajith (5.5), S. Abhi Nayak (5), J. Sandeep (5), M.G. Prameeth (5), Siddanth P. Vasisht (5), I. Kalal (5), S.P. Dheeraj (5), V. Avinash (5), N.C. Gambhir (5), B. Nimish Raj (5), Hruthvik (5), C. Abhishek (5) and I. Kavin (5) — played well. Mysuru girls — M.N. Eshanvi (6-15th place), Dhatri Umesh (6-16th place), Vidhya Sridhar (5.5), Sharadhi Shastry (5.5), Nesha Kavya Gowda (5), V. Deeksha (5) and C.T. Anamika Menon (5) played well in the U-15 Girls section.
The winners took home cash prizes of Rs.6,000 (1st place), Rs.4,000 (second place), Rs.2,500 (3rd place), Rs.2,000 (fourth place) and Rs.2,000 (fifth place) with trophies both in the open and U-15 girls section. Trophies were given to the first five places in the U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13 boys and girls category by the organisers.
