Kathak and Bharatanatyam recitals at Ganabharathi

Mysore/Mysuru: Naatya Sabha, Mysuru, has organised Kathak and Bharatanatyam recitals at Ganabharathi auditorium in Kuvempunagar on Mar. 20 at 6 pm.

The performing artistes of Kathak are the students of Articulate Dance Studios, Bengaluru — Laxminarayan Jena, Vaidegi Samikkannu and Poojashree C. Girish — while Bharatanatyam will be presented by Dr. M.S. Vidyalakshmi.

Guru Mysore B. Nagaraj, graduate of Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bengaluru, disciple of Dr. Maya Rao, past Visiting Scholar to Michigan State University, after two decades and half extensive performances in India and many countries abroad and a decade of teaching experience, established Articulate Dance Studios in Bengaluru as a unit of Articulate Trust for Arts, to impart training in Kathak to aspirants of the art form.

Many disciples trained by him at this school have carved a niche for themselves in the horizon of Indian Classical Dance. Training the disciples receive in this Studio touch upon Jaipur, Lucknow and Banaras Gharanas to create a comprehensive canvas of the Kathak form that Shambhu Maharaj and Sundarprasadji imparted. Under Guru Mysore B. Nagaraj’s leadership the performing art group of the Studios have performed in prestigious dance platforms winning accolades. Articulate’s home productions on thematic choreographies have been highly acclaimed.

Dr. Vidyalakshmi had her initial training in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of guru Pushpa Krishnamurthy. Her passion towards the art led her to pursue advance training under P. Praveen Kumar. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Masters Degree in Bharatanatyam from Bangalore University and has completed Vidwat. She has received a fellowship and successfully completed Ph.D from Bangalore University.
