The 12-over format tournament will be played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium

Mysuru: In an effort to bring Kannada movie stars closer to non-residential Kannadigas, the Karnataka Celebrity League (KCL) has been organised at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Dubai, said Mayur Master, member of Anivasi Kannadigara Sangha, Dubai.

Following the tournament announcement, the auction of players was held at Hotel Lalitha Mahal Palace here recently.

Speaking to media persons prior to the auction, Mayur Master said that a total of 10 teams will be taking part in tournament which features actors and technicians from Kannada Film Industry like Loose Mada Yogi, Darling Krishna, Tharun Sudhir among others.

The tournament will have a 12-over format with each team playing four matches in the group stage and the top two teams from each group entering the knock-out stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangha member Siraj said, the Association formed during the COVID-19 had helped many Kannadigas during the pandemic including arranging flight tickets and added that the cricket tournament was an initiative to unite all 10,000 Kannadigas residing in Dubai under a single roof.

Depending on the success of Karnataka Celebrity League, we will plan to organise similar league in various others sports, he said.

Overseas Kannadiga Srinidhi was present on the occasion.
