The Forest Department’s decision to introduce an entry fee at Lingambudhi Lake from Sept. 1, 2026, deserves reconsideration.

Lingambudhi Lake is not merely a tourist spot. It is a much-loved natural space used every day by hundreds of Mysuru residents for morning and evening walks, exercise and relaxation, including many senior citizens. Charging an entry fee may discourage regular walkers and reduce the use of this valuable green space.

If revenue is required for maintenance and conservation, a better approach would be to follow a model similar to Lalbagh in Bengaluru, where morning walking hours are kept free and paid entry begins later.

We request the Forest Department to provide free entry during designated walking hours, particularly in the early morning, while collecting reasonable fees during general visiting hours.

Lingambudhi should encourage people to stay healthy and connected with nature, not become a place where regular walkers have to pay simply to walk.
