Kodagu man with gold worth Rs. 11 lakh held at Bengaluru Airport

September 8, 2018

Bengaluru:  Customs Department sleuths have seized gold worth Rs. 11.57 lakh from a Kodagu resident who arrived from Bahrain at the Kempegowda International Airport Limited (KIAL) at Devanahalli in Bengaluru. The gold was hidden in his trousers.

The accused is 50-year-old Kottambadi Ahmed Latheef, a resident of Hodavada village in Kodagu. He was travelling from Bahrain to India and landed at KIAL on the morning of Sept. 6.

On checking by Customs officials, they found that Ahmed Latheef had cut gold into small pieces and had concealed them in the left side pocket of his trousers. He had wrapped the gold in silver-coloured foils and had concealed in the trouser pockets to avoid detection.

All aircraft and passengers are searched by the officers of the Airport Customs to look for possible concealment of gold, contrabands and other substances.

Ahmed Latheef had come to Bengaluru in Gulf Airlines. He has been arrested now and investigations are on.
