Mysuru:  As part of World Environment Day, 1,000 saplings will be planted near Karya village, Hullahalli hobli in Nanjangud taluk on June 5, said Shreekanth Bhat, the Founder of Koti Vrksha Pratishthan (KVP).

Addressing a press conference at Pathrakartara Bhavan here on Sunday, Shreekanth said that he, along with environmentalists, nature-lovers and volunteers, would assemble near Yajamana Theatre at Hullahalli at 7.35 am on June 5 and will then proceed to the designated place and plant 1,000 saplings.

KVP has been conducting various programmes on environment conservation and protection and importance is given to protection of trees and plants and taking care of them, he added.

In a bid to encourage the public to plant saplings and take care of it, saplings are being given free to them, he said and added that they have an aim of planting 25,000 saplings this year for which KVP has already grown the saplings which would be planted in school and college premises, roadsides, office premises and other places which are suitable to grow trees.

Shreekanth Bhat said that the weather which was being experienced in the months of March and April was experienced in September itself and added that Mysuru has grown hotter.

If we plant the saplings and take care of it till the next summer, we could control the temperature to some extent, he said.
