KPTTA-MTC Natl. AITA CS Tennis Tournament: Upset win for Sagarika

Unseeded R. Sagarika Sonni of Karnataka, displaying excellent grit, played well in the crucial points and pulled off an upset win over third seed Ishita D. Jhadav of Maharashtra 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4 and entered the quarter-finals in the girls U-18 singles event on the second day of the KPTTA-MTC AITA U-18 (boys & girls) Championship Series Tennis Tournament played at the Mysore Tennis Club here, yesterday.

In the boys U-18 singles, local lad and G. Manish also scored an upset win over sixth seed state-mate Shashank A. Narde 6-2, 6-3 to enter the last eight stage of the tournament. Top-seed G.S. Sanjay (Kerala), second seed and local lad Aryan Ashwath Pathange sailed into the quarter-finals with good wins over their respective rivals.

Manish (KAR) bt Shashank Narde (KAR) 6-2, 6-3, Sai Siddharth Nandakumar (TEL) bt Nanaiah Somaiah (KAR) 6-3, 6-3, Rishi Pavethan (KAR) bt Eshwar Shashidhar (KAR) 6-3, 7-6 (2), D. Harshavardhan (TN) bt Arjun Rathnam (TN) 6-3, 6-2, Aryan Ashwath Pathange (Kar) bt Savan Anish (TN) 6-2, 6-0.

Girls: Yashaswini Singh (MP) bt Rani Jenifer 6-1, 6-0, Nitya Shekar bt Chandini Murali 6-3, 6-2, Kushi Santosh (KAR) bt Akanksha (KAR) 6-2, 6-3, Nivedita Shankar (Kar) bt Mounika 6-2, 6-2, Yashomathi (TN) bt Avanthi Ram 6-1, 6-1, Sagarika Sonni (KAR) bt Ishita Jhadhav (MAH) 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4, Sagaya Angelin Shalini bt Chaithali  Narde (KAR) 6-1, 6-3, Sanjana Sirimalla (TEL) bt M.
