‘KR Circle to have traffic-free corridor for ambulances’

March 8, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) S.N. Sandesh Kumar said that Traffic Police are considering a proposal to organise a traffic-free corridor at K.R. Circle for ambulances and switch off the ‘Left Only’ signals at all major junctions in city.

Speaking after holding a Traffic Advisory Committee meeting yesterday, ACP Sandesh Kumar said that Police have taken note of the traffic violations taking place at junctions having ‘Left Only’ signal and for this reason, Traffic Police are considering a proposal to switch off the ‘Left Only’ signals at major traffic junctions across the city. As of now, ‘Left Only’ signals are allowing vehicles travelling to the left side 30 seconds before the signal turns green for vehicles taking right turn and going straight.

“When the Left Only signal turns green, we have noticed that some motorists proceed straight and even take a right by riding in a zig-zag fashion at the junctions, especially at K.R. Circle. The trial will be carried out across all the traffic junctions where four or more roads meet for 15 days”, he said.

Meanwhile, some people present at the meeting complained about ongoing Optical Fibre Cables (OFC) laying work across the city, which has left the roads in a bad shape, as a result of which two-wheeler riders are forced to manoeuvre through craters and mud mounds. They also complained about auto drivers not following the traffic rules.

ACP Sandesh Kumar assured to take up necessary measures in this regard and take action against traffic violators.
