This is with reference to the report ‘75 CCTV cameras dead, only handful of guards at KRS Dam’  (SOM dated June 24). In the late eighties, when we used to visit this tourist spot, Brindavan Gardens were truly breathtaking. Visitors were allowed to walk along the Dam walls, go close to the crest gates, enjoy safe and delightful boating rides.

The 60-acre garden was a marvel with melodious instrumental music, elegant lighting and functioning fountains.

Today, however, the situation is disheartening. Entry fees have been hiked while the experience offered has drastically declined.

Despite the Government allocating hundreds of crores of rupees for maintenance every few years, what greets us are broken fountains, gardens and waterways strewn with trash, half-sunken boats and missing toilet facilities.

Public access to the Dam walls has been prohibited, but those with privilege, influence, or money can still obtain permission to access restricted areas.
