KSOU examinees stage snap stir against pre-ponement of exam

October 6, 2020

Mysore/Mysuru: Claiming that the University had conducted the exam of final year B.A.Sociology paper one day in advance without making any announcement, more than 30 examinees of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) who had come to the KSOU Campus in Manasagangothri for attending the exam on Sunday last staged a snap stir in protest against the Open University’s action.

The students said that KSOU which had scheduled Sociology (Paper-3) exam on Sept.28, postponed it for Oct.4 on account of the Karnataka Bandh called by farmer organisations on Sept.28.

Accordingly, they came to appear for the exam on Oct.4 morning, when they were shocked to learn that the exam was held on Saturday itself, a day in advance, they said and urged the University to hold the exam for them once again.

VC clarifies

KSOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.Vidyashankar, on learning of the protest, called the students over phone and assured that Sociology (Paper-3) exam will be held again for those who did not attend Saturday’s exam. Following the assurance, the students withdrew their protest.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Prof. Vidyashankar said that following a request by students KSOU had advanced the exam by a day to avoid clash with the Statewide  KTET (Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test) date that was scheduled by the Education Department for Oct.4. The pre-ponement was announced in the University website and also messages were sent to examinees’ mobile phones. But it seems that some did not see the message or bother to check the University website.

Also the KSOU, taking note of the absence of students for Saturday’s exam, had announced that the exam will be held on another day, which too was not noticed by them and thinking that the exam would take place on Sunday, the students came to the centre. However, the University, will conduct the exam on another day for those who did not attend Saturday’s (Oct.3) exam, he clarified and added that the students must not have any confusion in this regard.
