KSRTC bus driver sentenced to one year jail for killing cyclist in accident

Mysuru:  The Third Additional CJM Court has sentenced a KSRTC bus driver responsible for the death of a cyclist to one year jail.

The driver who has been sentenced has been identified as M. Girish.

Girish, on Mar. 26, 2008, had knocked down cyclist Siddaraju on KRS Road due to rash and negligent driving. Siddaraju, who fell down from his bicycle, was run over by the bus, killing him on the spot.

Girish had also rammed the bus into two-wheelers moving in front of the bus resulting in riders Vaidyanath and Prakruthi sustaining severe injuries.

V.V. Puram Traffic Police, who had registered a case, conducted an investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge R.D. Hari, who heard the arguments, found Girish guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 5,000. Assistant Public Prosecutor C.B. Girish argued for the Government.
