Kudos to City Court Judges

Sir,

The news item about a City Court Judge under the “Human Interest Story” published in SOM dated Apr.12 reminded me of two very eminent personalities —  Dr. Abdul Kalam and Albert Einstein.

Abdul Kalam had said that while he was in Tel Aviv he once saw a Israeli newspaper and the front page had news about a Jewish gentleman who had transformed a desert into an orchid and granary. This was despite the fact that there were so many killings and bombardments in the country. The paper had all that news in the inner pages. He found this in contrast to what we see in Indian newspapers. He encouraged the Indian journalists to follow this example, so that the people wake up to some inspiring news item in the newspaper.

SOM did the same. There were many other articles about corruption and killings and kidnappings in the inside pages but this paper chose to write about the good example of how a Judge sympathised with an old lady who had come all the way from Chennai just to collect  the cheques.

Since the shirastedar delayed giving of cheques the Judge came back from home to the court at 6.15 pm and saw to it that the cheques were given to the lady. On top of this the Judge apologised for the delay and inconvenience caused by their subordinate. This is definitely an inspiring incident in contrast to the happenings in the country elsewhere where VIPs arrogantly misbehave and do not apologise for their misdeeds. In such times this Judge’s behaviour is truly inspiring and needs to be appreciated.

Now coming to Albert Einstein, he had said, “The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”  Here is a case where the Principal Judge Patil and Additional Senior Civil Judge Jagadish worked in tandem so that the lady could get her cheque with no further delay (I mentioned their names here because their act is truly admirable and worth emulating). They both did whatever was there in their power   so that the client would not be put into any further inconvenience. A wonderful example of what can be achieved by doing the right thing.

Once again I would like to thank SOM for publishing this good news item on front page. Thank you very much!
