In response to letters from readers recently in SOM about DL licence test, here are my inputs: I appreciate the RTO authorities for complete automation of LL, DL issue and renewal by registration and payments through online web portal. This has eliminated the middlemen, agents and touts at RTO for these services.

Further, strict implementation in LL, DL issuance with Driving Track Test has eliminated youngsters and others getting the same by hook or crook.

As per suggestion from other readers, I would suggest RTO to make this a permanent feature by streamlining like:

1. Increase the time limit for reverse “S” for four-wheelers.

2. Adopt the minimum attempts of failures in certain cases like half clutch test for four-wheelers.

3. Eliminate the road test for long time DL licence holders and senior citizens for renewal of licence.

4. Issue registration to new vehicles online as per the new policy eliminating inspection  visit to RTO.
