Recover three gold chains worth Rs. 4,27,500, seize two-wheeler

Mysore/Mysuru: Kuvempunagar Police, who were investigating a chain-snatching case which took place on Jan. 14 at Ramakrishna Nagar, have arrested two chain-snatchers on Jan. 17 and have recovered three gold chains weighing 95 grams and worth Rs. 4,27,500 from them besides seizing a two-wheeler used for the crime from them.

One of the chain-snatchers, while fleeing after yanking off the gold chain of a retired teacher, had dropped his mobile phone, which was handed over to the Police. This helped the Police in nabbing the culprits.

According to sources, one of the chain-snatchers is an Engineering graduate while the other is a cab driver. Both were friends and residents of Chamarajanagar, who were working in Mysuru. Following COVID pandemic, the cab driver was rendered jobless and was in debts, following which he, along with his engineer friend, had taken up to chain-snatching.

The duo used to take the bike of their friends and come from Chamarajanagar to Mysuru, where they used to target their victims in Kuvempunagar, Viveka-nandanagar, Vidyaranyapuram and surrounding places, commit the crime and ride back to Chamarajanagar via Ring Road.

During interrogation, the accused are said to have confessed of snatching two gold chains in Kuvempunagar and one in Vidyaranyapuram Police limits.

Irshad, CEN Sub-Inspector N. Anilkumar and staff M.P. Manjunath, Yogesh, Puttappa, Harshavardhan, Hazarath Ali, Nagesh, Srinivas, Madesh and staff of K.R. Sub-Division Crime Detection Unit in the nabbing operation.
