Move will ensure water supply to residents of newly developed areas, says MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev
Mysore/Mysuru: The announcement made by Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa in his State Budget 2021-2022 presented on Monday that areas falling under the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will be brought under the jurisdiction of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (KUWSSB) for better and systemic management of water supply and sewerage facilities, has brought cheer in some quarters.
Elected representatives including former Ministers G.T. Deve Gowda and Tanveer Sait, MP Pratap Simha, MLA L. Nagendra and MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev had urged the CM to constitute Mysuru Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (MUWSSB) on the lines of Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) for Mysuru to sort out the issues of water and sewerage of the growing city.
But instead of constituting the MUWSSB, the CM chose to bring residential areas developed or approved by MUDA under the jurisdiction of KUWSSB. At present, Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW) of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), supplies drinking water to the areas under its limits.
Welcoming the CM’s decision, Rajeev said “There is a long-pending demand for drinking water from Cauvery or Kabini to the newly developed MUDA areas and KUWSSB can draw water from Cauvery and Kabini. This will also ease the pressure on the MCC and VVWW as they need not supply water to new MUDA areas.”
“As the Ministers and MP have assured, regular water supply to Vijayanagar Fourth Stage will be provided soon. Pump sets have been installed and water is being supplied to the area for half-an-hour to see if there are any blockages and also to ensure that every house gets water. Problems are being identified and rectified which would be completed in the next 10 days. Once completed, regular water would be supplied,” he added.
Thanking the CM for the announcement, Rajeev also thanked Mysuru District Minister S.T. Somashekar. “There were expectations that the CM would allocate funds for the expansion of Mysore Airport runway to facilitate landing of bigger planes. I am sure that the CM will allocate funds for the airport in the supplementary budget. As per the information from the Government, Film City will come back to Mysuru,” he added.
Replying to a query, Rajeev said that MUDA has plans to build over 6,000 to 8,000 houses in over 16 places in Mysuru and plans are afoot to build affordable group houses for poor and middle class groups. “These new houses with new and innovative designs will be sold at competitive rates,” he added.
