Mysore/Mysuru: In a bid to curb illegal activities, especially extortions by transgenders from late night bus commuters, Lakshmipuram Police, on instructions from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda and Krishnaraja (KR) Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Poornachandra Thejaswi, Lakshmipuram Police have launched ‘Operation Mufti’ at various places in city.
‘Operation Mufti’ would be conducted from 9 pm to 12 am at various places including Oval Grounds, Metropole Hotel Circle, Kautilya Circle, surroundings of DC Office, Devaraj Urs Road-JLB Road Junction and near Crawford Hall.
Inspector R. Venkatesh, speaking to Star of Mysore, said that, during ‘Operation Mufti,’ Police personnel in plain clothes would stop vehicles and people moving unnecessarily during late hours and enquire them besides asking them not to move around alone and issue warning if they (public) are found moving unnecessarily.
He further said that following oral complaints about illegal activities and menace of anti-social elements, especially during nights, ‘Operation Mufti’ is being conducted since two days and added that more than 10 Police personnel have been deployed for conducting the operation to curb illegal activities.
Continuing, he said that the Police personnel would stop vehicles moving unnecessarily during nights and check the documents of the vehicle and the person behind the wheels of the vehicle. If they are found suspicious, they would be brought to the Police Station for further enquiry, he added.
It is learnt that the menace of transgenders was more as they target lonely persons, especially bus commuters, who arrive late night and extort money and valuables from them.
It is also learnt that many defunct streetlights at various places, which has plunged many places into darkness, was adding more problems to the existing problems.
