Mysuru: Mysuru Urban Development Authority Chairman D. Dhruvakumar was ecstatic with the response shown by the Mysureans to the site allotment at Lalithadrinagar, as hundreds gathered in front of various branches of Vijaya Bank, from this morning, to collect application forms.
Speaking to Star of Mysore Dhruvakumar, said, “We are expecting over 60,000 applications for 541 sites at Lalithadranagar that will be distributed once the process is completed. Since, there is an overwhelming response, we will not extend the date for collecting applications at any cost. (The last date is Aug. 16, 2017).”
He said that with MUDA having very little land parcel, it has no choice but to go for vertical housing. Hence, there are plans to go in for affordable housing schemes in the future. “We cannot afford to buy land as it has become very expensive. If we purchase lands then we cannot give it at rates that a common man can afford. The only option is to construct apartments and sell it at affordable cost,” he said.
The applications for the sites are being given at eight branches of Vijaya Bank. However, the branch at MUDA will not issue the application forms.
While there was a big rush in few of the branches, in others it was picking up slowly. The Nazarabad branch saw more than 300 applications being sold within a few hours of the branch opening.
Two counters have been opened at the bank in Nazarabad. Each application costs Rs 100 and for scheduled caste and tribe applicants, for ex-servicemen, families of central forces, martyrs’ families and physically and mentally challenged applicants, a fee of Rs.50 has been fixed.
The last date for submitting the filled-in application form with all relevant documents is August 26.
The bank officials are checking the address proof of each applicant before giving the application form. Avinash, a resident of Alanahalli told SOM that he had applied for a site earlier in RT Nagar and was unsuccessful. Hence, he was applying for a 30X40 ft site in Lalithadranagar, to increase his chances in the seniority list, as he had already made three attempts.
Rudregowda, a senior citizen, and a resident of TK Layout who had come to the Vijaya Bank Circle branch on Kuvempunagar Double Road, said that he had not applied for any sites so far and he knew that he had very little chances of getting it.
However, he hoped that considering his age he might get it this time, which he could give it to his children if he gets it during his lifetime.
The bank officials expect to sell anywhere between 2,000 to 3,000 applications per day. The rush is expected to grow from tomorrow and on the last day it is expected to surge further once people will realise that the last date for issuing applications will not be extended at any cost.
Vijaya Bank just collects the application fee and deposits the money in MUDA account. The process of checking the application is done by MUDA officials.
