December 14, 2022

Abstain from Court proceedings, submit memorandum

Mysore/Mysuru: Alleging that attacks and atrocities against advocates are on the rise in the State, members of Mysuru Bar Association staged a demonstration in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust, opposite the District Law Courts Complex here yesterday, seeking immediate introduction of the Advocates Protection Act, which has been submitted by the Bar Council.

The Lawyers, responding to a State-wide call from Karnataka Bar Council, Bengaluru, stayed away from Court proceedings and took part in the protest.

Maintaining that attacks on them are on the rise, the Lawyers said that they were facing a lot of difficulties in taking up cases due to threats and physical attacks.

Urging the Government to come to their rescue by introducing the Advocates Protection Act, they said that the Act has become necessary to safeguard them against attacks and threats.

The Lawyers later submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Chief Minister, to Assistant Commissioner Kamala Bai, who went to the spot upon coming to know of the protest. She promised to bring the matter to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and also forward the memorandum to the CM.

Mysuru Bar Association President M. Mahadevaswamy, Secretary S. Umesha and others were present.
