Mysore/Mysuru: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly’s Committee on ‘Papers Laid on the Table’ has collected information on reports from various departments in city. The Committee is headed by K.R. Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh. 

As per the fresh rules framed by the Secretariat of the Legislative Assembly, the Committee on ‘Papers Laid on the Table’ meets on Tuesdays and accordingly, the panel met in Mysuru on Jan. 12 and collected information from Zilla Panchayat (ZP), Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) and Karnataka State Open University  (KSOU). 

The first meeting was held at ZP Hall where the papers and tabled reports of the ZP were examined. At the outset, Committee Chairman had asked the officers to ensure that the proceedings of the meeting are not leaked to the media before the Committee submits its report to the Speaker.

The Committee collected information on the pending reports — annual report and Audit Committee report — from Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department officials. 

Later, the Committee Members proceeded to MUDA Office and discussed about the reports with MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev and officials. Later, similar meeting was held at KSOU Administrative Office. 

Speaking to reporters, Mahesh said that the Committee comprises senior members of the Assembly and Legislative Council and it visits each district every year and examines the papers tabled at public meetings of the departments and ZPs. 

Also, annual and monthly reports are scrutinised in the interests of efficient administration. Usually, the Departments, City Development Boards like Corporations and Urban Development Authorities send their annual reports and audit reports to Legislative Assembly. 

“We examine if the reports are sent timely and this Committee will submit our reports to the Speaker,” he revealed. 

Aspects like the Government fund utilisation, implementation of Government schemes and programmes are examined and Committee has powers to direct the Department and District heads if there are any loopholes. 

“We submit the reports to the Speaker and do not reveal the discussed issues at meetings to the media,” he added.
