Leopard trapped near Yelwal

Mysore/Mysuru: A two-year-old leopardess, which had created panic among villagers of Mydanahalli and surrounding villages in Yelwal hobli of the taluk, has been trapped in the cage placed by the Forest Department.

The leopard had attacked livestock and following complaint from the villagers, the Forest staff had placed a cage at an agricultural field and had placed a dog as bait.

The leopardess, which walked into the cage to devour the dog, was trapped and the Forest staff have released it into a forest.

DCF Basavaraj said that the leopardess was trapped in the early hours of Friday and the Forest Department, which took custody of the big cat, released it into the Forest later.

Cow carcass at Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar; Forest Department denies big cat attack: Meanwhile, a carcass of a partially devoured cow was found at Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar, a few days ago, triggered suspicion of a leopard attack. Forest Department staff, who inspected the spot, said that the cow had died a natural death and confirmed that stray dogs had eaten away a part of the cow body.

During inspection, the Forest staff did not find any clues of leopard attack and even the pug marks were not found. They convinced the public that the cow was not killed by a leopard.
