Mysore/Mysuru: “Though it was earlier announced that leprosy has been eradicated, it has been traced in Mysuru, T. Narasipur and Nanjangud side,” said Taluk Zone Health Education Officer Mahadeva.
He was speaking at the Health Quiz programme, organised jointly by Maharani Women Arts College and District Health and Family Welfare Department in association with National Service Scheme (NSS) units at Jayalakshmamanni Auditorium in Maharani Art College premises this morning.
Pointing out that Leprosy Awareness Month is being observed from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31 in the country, Mahadeva said that the Health Department has also started the awareness programme in the district and added that the quiz programme, being held under Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme of the Health Department was a part of the awareness drive.
Stating that the Government has provided Rs. 10,000 grant for the IEC programme for the year 2020-21 to Mysuru taluk, he said that the quiz programme will be held in four other colleges and added that the quiz programme will be held at CPC Polytechnic tomorrow.
Earlier, the quiz programme was inaugurated by felicitating Maharani College’s talented visually impaired student Anaga. More than 40 students took part in the quiz out of which three will be declared winners and cash prizes of Rs. 750, Rs. 500 and Rs. 250 will be given to the first three winners respectively.
College Principal Dr. B.T. Vijaya presided. Assistant Professors and NSS Unit-1, 2 and 3 Convenors Manonmani, Dr. Chandrakumar and Dr. S.G. Raghavendra and Assistant Professor and NSS Unit-PG Convenor Dr. K. Saritha were present.
