Says Prof. M.S. Shekhar, Director of Gandhi Bhavan, UoM
Mysuru: “We need not worry too much about what should we write; let us write about our native village and its life where we would certainly get abundant subject matter for our literary works,” opined Prof. M.S. Shekhar, Director of Gandhi Bhavan, University of Mysore (UoM).
He was speaking after inaugurating the book release event organised by District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mysuru, in association with Samvahana Prakashana, at the Parishat auditorium in Vijayanagar 1st Stage here yesterday.
Journalist Amshi Prasannakumar released Kannada novel ‘Navilugari Bettada Mele,’ authored by Gubbihalli Dr. Gangadhar Shetty, a guest lecturer at Govt. First Grade College of Saligrama, on the occasion.
“Kuvempu, Da.Ra. Bendre and Devanuru Mahadev have all written about their native village and its life without any exaggeration. Today’s writers can certainly follow their steps and document the identity of the rural life,” he said.
Speaking about the novel, Dr. Hombaiah Honnalagere of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS), UoM, said: “as a student of literature, the author has a good command over language. There is love, dream, rationality and spirituality in this novel with efforts to find a solution for the problem of communalism.”
Parishat Mysuru President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna, Publisher D.N. Lokappa, writer Dr. Gangadhar Shetty and others were present.
