This refers to the news item “Residents warned against letting rainwater into UGD system: MCC sets 15-day deadline” (Star of Mysore dated Jan. 17). I don’t think anyone will proactively disconnect the rainwater line from terrace to UGD (Under-Ground Drainage). The MCC may have to do an inspection to check if everyone is following this order.
Our house gets flooded with drainage water every time it rains heavily as our house is near a dead end and the UGD line takes a sharp turn from the dead end to connect to another UGD line which is on the main road.
We have been facing this issue since 7 years and every time we complain, the standard response we get is to increase the height of our bathroom or to install a Non Return Valve.
We have tried both and neither of them worked because of the water pressure which gets created in the UGD.
Nobody understands that it will not solve the underlying problem of drainage water reversing into the house.
MCC officials visited our house couple of times in the past but no action has been taken in this regard. Our area Corporator tried resolving the issue by creating a new UGD chamber in front of our house but that too starts overflowing during heavy rain.
The only solution to this problem is to ensure rainwater doesn’t get into UGD so that people like us are spared from the horrible sight of drainage water entering our houses during every rainy season. Hopefully, better sense will prevail and everyone will follow this order strictly.
