‘Libraries are a boon to the poor’

Online Public Access Catalogue Centre launched at Maharaja’s College

Mysuru: Writer B. Shyama Sundar inaugurated the new Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) Centre and Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations at Maharaja’s College here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Shyama Sundar said that libraries are a boon to economically backward sections of the society.

Pointing out that during his student days he considered the college library as the ‘Temple of learning,’ he maintained that the library played a key-role in his growth and what he was today.

Recalling his student days at Maharaja’s College, he said that he engaged himself in all academic and co-curricular activities.

Maintaining that it was the books available in the college library that brought him to script plays, he said that many of his works were made text books by Mysore, Bangalore and Karnataka Universities.

He also inaugurated a book exhibition on the occasion.

Writer B. Shyam Sundar, Rajyotsava awardee Seetharam Jagirdar and 12 other achievers from different fields were felicitated on the occasion.

Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar, UoM Syndicate Members L. Jagadish and Sahana Shivappa, UoM Evening College Kannada faculty Dr. C.D. Parashuram, Deputy Librarian R.K. Somashekhar, Yuvaraja College faculty Nayana, Librarian N. Kavitha and others were present.
