Mysuru:  Film Actor and renowned theatre person ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru has opined that a country’s wealth is not measured by its people’s wealth but by the richness of its literature, culture and heritage

He was speaking at Hasya- Chutuku Kavigoshti of this year’s Dasara Bahuroopi Kavigoshti held at B.M. Sri auditorium of Kuvempu Institute of Kannada Studies (KIKS) in Manasagangothri yesterday.

Presiding over the event, the senior actor said that India is a treasure house of high quality heritage, culture and literature. “It is easy to earn money but culture and literature must be inherited from the nativity of the land,” he opined.

Continuing, Chandru, referring to the speech of Gavimutt Seer, said that the revered Koppal Swamiji has explained in detail the characteristics of a healthy society and tried to educate people by pointing out the maladies of the present society.

“The Seer had also underscored the significance of Mysuru’s culture, arts, religiousness and heritage,” he said.

A host of renowned humorists, including Mysore Anand, Kirloskar Sathya and Richard Louis, enlivened the proceedings of Hasya-Chutuku Kavigoshti displaying their acute sense of humour narrating incidents from our daily life. They also ridiculed Kannadigas’ love for other languages by neglecting their mother tongue Kannada.

“By conversing in English with our dogs and other pets, we are totally forgetting our mother tongue and denying the knowledge of Kannada to even our pets,” said Richard Louis expressing his anger for forgetting Kannada by our own people.

Another highlight of this year’s Kavigoshti is the display of old time unique items which were part of our rural life not long ago, but are on the verge of extinction.

Bullock cart wheel, wooden plough, food grains, musical instruments like tambura, tutturi, kombu kahale, nagaari, harmonium, variety of clay pots and others were on display at the ‘Bahuroopi Kavigoshti.’

KIKS has organised this unique display of rural items.
