Illicit affair leads to murder in Saragur;  accused arrested within 24 hours

Mysore/Mysuru: Saragur Police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his paramour’s husband and seized the car used in the crime.

Addressing a press meet at his office in the city yesterday, Mysuru Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi said the deceased has been identified as Javarappa of Saragur taluk, while the accused, Siddesh, is a mason from Mavinahalli village in Jayapura hobli of Mysuru taluk.

Quarrel over family issues

According to a complaint filed by Javarappa’s brother Ravi, Javarappa had married Amrutha of Hadya village in Nanjangud taluk about nine years ago and the couple had two children. The complaint stated that the couple frequently quarrelled over family issues.

About 12 days ago, Amrutha had gone to her parents’ house along with the children for a festival. On Apr. 16 at around 11 am, Javarappa informed Ravi that he was going to Hadya. Later, at about 6.45 pm, he called to say he was in Hediyala and would return home.

The complaint further stated that a villager, Murthy, saw Javarappa near a garment shop in Hediyala at about 7.45 pm. When Murthy asked him to return to the village, a man accompanying Javarappa said he would bring him back. Murthy later informed Ravi about it.

Body found by the side of the road

The next morning, on Apr. 17 at about 6.30 am, two villagers, Krishna and Rajashekar, noticed Javarappa lying by the roadside while transporting milk to Kadubegur.

When he did not respond, they alerted others. Villagers who gathered at the spot found injuries on his dead body, following which Ravi lodged a complaint at Saragur Police Station.

Senior officers, including SP Mallikarjun Baladandi, Additional SPs C. Mallik and L. Nagesh, and Dy.SP Ravi visited the spot and began investigations. Three teams were formed to trace the accused.

Based on leads, a team led by Dy.SP Ravi, along with Saragur Inspector Prasanna Kumar, SI R. Kiran and Antharasanthe SI Chandrahasanayaka, arrested Siddesh at Hampapura at about 9 am on Apr. 18.

Dy.SP Ravi, Saragur Inspector Prasanna Kumar, Sub-Inspector R. Kiran, Antharasanthe Sub-Inspector Chandrahasanayaka, Sub-Inspector R. Kumar, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Srikantaswamy and Krishnakumar, along with staff Imran Ahmed, M.S. Shivaraju, Krishnaiah, Vinaykumar, Sunil Kumar, Ramesh, H.S. Chandra and M. A conspiracy to remove ‘obstacle’

During interrogation, Siddesh is said to have confessed to having an illicit relationship with Amrutha. Police said the duo conspired to eliminate Javarappa, who they considered                  an obstacle.

On Apr. 16 evening, after being alerted by Amrutha about her husband’s movements, Siddesh allegedly waited for Javarappa at Hediyala, took him to a bar and made him consume alcohol.

Siddesh then drove him to a secluded spot near Yethiga Halla in Saragur limits, where he allegedly strangled him with a towel. The body was later dumped by the roadside near Kurnigala village.

Following the confession, the Police arrested Amrutha and seized the car (TN-02-AH-9191) used in the crime within 24 hours.
