Maharaja Sanskrit College to get Hostel Block, Shaiva Research Centre

Mysuru: The foundation stone for the construction of a new Hostel Block and a Shaiva Research Centre together with an outlay of Rs. 2.36 crore was laid by Sri Siddeshwara Swamiji of Jnanayogashrama, Vijayapura at the premises of Maharaja Sanskrit College on New Sayyaji Rao Road here on May 15.

Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji and Adichunchanagiri Mutt Mysuru Branch Seer Sri Somanatha Swamiji graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Sri Siddeshwara Swamiji opined that Sanskrit, dating back to ages, was a rich language with innumerable works. He recalled the good support given by the Mysore Maharajas for the development of Sanskrit.

Suttur Seer lauded  the College for producing many scholars but regretted that students were less interested in Sanskrit now.

Presiding over the programme, Karnatak Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Padma Shekar said that the University is coming out with many Shaiva Research works. She further said that the Varsity campus in Bengaluru will soon have a spacious Syndicate Meeting Hall and Lecturers’ Room, which are likely to be inaugurated by the Governor on June 3. She added that Sri Ramanujacharya Sahasramanothsava Bhavana would also be ready in Melukote next month.

Registrar M. Shilpa, Finance Officer Dr. Prakash R. Pagoji, College Principal Dr. Mahadevaiah, Shaiva Research Centre Director Dr. Sharathchandraswamy, ORI Director Dr. S. Shivarajappa and others were present on the occasion.
