Maharajapuram Ramachandran to perform at Nadabrahma tomorrow

Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha has organised a Karnatak vocal concert by Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran in memory of late C.R. Srinivasan, The Oriental Research Institute, Mysuru. The concert is on Dec.17 at 6 pm.

Ramachandran will be accompanied by Surup Tatachar on violin, Tumkur B. Ravishakar on mridanga and S. Manjunath on ghata.

Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran: Maharajapuram Ramachandran is the grandson of Maharajapuram Vishwanatha Iyer and son and senior disciple of celebrated musician Maharajapuram Santanam. He has successfully inherited his father’s style whilst preserving his originality in presentation. Gifted with a reverberating voice and a good sahitya sense, he sustains a lively tempo throughout his concerts.

Ramachandran is a popular musician and has performed for almost all the prestigious Sabhas including The Madras Music Academy, Chennai. He is popular for singing the famous songs of his father Santanam like Unnai Allal (Kalyani), Padhame Gati, Varam Onru, Bho Shambho, Tunga Teera Virajam, Sri Chakra Raja Simhasaneshwari, Ksheerabdhi Kannike and many more.

Surup Tatachar:  Surup is learning under the tutelage of Sri Nellai Ravindran in SIFAS, Singapore, since eight years. He is presently undergoing advanced training under Dr. Sriram Parashuram, Chennai. Surup has received the ‘Vadya Visharad’ title at SIFAS. He was also awarded the ‘Rising Star’ title at The Trinity Arts Festival during Margazhi Utsavam in 2017.

Tumkur B. Ravishankar: He is an accomplished mridanga artiste who comes from a family of mridanga artistes. Ravishankar is the son and disciple of Tumkur Bhadrachar. He is a top grade mridanga artiste at All India Radio (AIR), Mysuru, since 1995. He has played for almost all the leading artistes of today including Vijaya Shiva, Sudha Raghunathan, Hyderabad Brothers, Chitraveena Ravikiran, Malladi Brothers, Bellary M. Raghavendra, Mysore Nagaraj and Manjunath and many others.

S. Manjunath: Fondly known as Chikka Manju, Manjunath is a well-known ghata artiste. He has accompanied  many popular artistes in and outside Mysuru.
