‘Mahisha Utsava’ stage was used to denigrate religions, says MP

October 14, 2023

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha responded to the ‘Mahisha Utsava’ and ‘Dhamma Deeksha Day’ event held at the Town Hall premises yesterday, highlighting their successful efforts in preventing ‘Mahisha Dasara’ atop Chamundi Hill.

Pratap Simha stated, “Every year, a group of individuals used to visit Chamundi Hill to offer prayers to Mahishasura, and in doing so, would insult Goddess Chamundeshwari. In response, we initiated the ‘Chamundi Betta Chalo’ campaign to oppose this practice. Ultimately, the Police prevented access to Chamundi Hill. Our objective was to stop people from disrespecting our Goddess and religion, and we believe we have successfully conveyed that message.”

He continued, “What occurred at Town Hall was ‘Mahisha Utsava,’ not ‘Mahisha Dasara,’ and the Police had issued conditional approval for the event. However, the Police’s order strictly prohibited processions, rallies, and large gatherings, and these restrictions were blatantly violated. I urge the Police to take appropriate action against those who violated these conditions.”

Simha added, “Speakers at the event made disparaging remarks about Vokkaligas and Hindus, and the ‘Mahisha Utsava’ stage was used to denigrate religions. This is unacceptable.”
