“Maintaining quality of education essential in today’s competitive age”

March 29, 2019

Mysuru: “Maintaining quality of education in today’s competitive age and flourishing technology is very essential,” opined Prof. S. R. Niranjana, Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University.

He was speaking at the valedictory of Yuvaraja College’s 2018-19 Jnanavahini Extracurricular Activity, NSS and Sports Day held in city on Wednesday.

Today, in all the Universities, emphasis is being given to quality education, which is very much essential in the current situation.  One cannot lead a decent life without education. Therefore, education plays a vital role in everyone’s life, he said.

In higher education, study subjects have expanded in terms of diversity whereas 20 years ago only Botany and Zoology were taken as subjects.   There is such a scenario now where different dimensions of source subjects have become separate subjects. In this context, it is essential to have at least minimum knowledge about most of the subjects.  In our country, there are 950 Universities providing education out of which 370 are State-owned Universities and 50,000 degree colleges. Still the number of students taking up higher education is less and not satisfactory, the VC regretted.

On the occasion, prizes were distributed to students who excelled in extracurricular activities, NSS and Sports Day.  International Sportsperson Arjun Devaiah was the chief guest.

Dr. M. Rudraiah, Principal, Yuvaraja’s College presided.  Dr. H. C. Devarajegowda, Administrative Officer, Dr. H. B. Mahesh, Controller of Exams, Dr. K. Sowbhagyavathi, Coordinator, Jnanavahini Extracurricular Activity, Dr. Satish Bhat Shankar, Programme Officer, NSS, Kantharaj, Sports Secretary, Department of Physical Education and others were present.
