On International Women’s Day-2025, we celebrate the dedication of women whose tireless service in clinical laboratories makes a lasting impact. As the call for gender equality grows stronger, women continue to shatter barriers, excelling alongside men in every field. The realm of medical services is no exception, with women playing a pivotal role — especially in clinical laboratory services, where precision and dedication save lives.

B. Latha, a Laboratory Technical Officer at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in J.P. Nagar, Mysuru, stands as a shining example of this commitment.

She is part of a growing force of women in Government service, delivering quality healthcare without seeking recognition. Known for her accessibility and compassion, she has earned the trust of patients who rely on her for timely blood tests and clinical reports.

Her unwavering dedication ensures that every sample counts, delivering precise and timely reports that strengthen Mysuru city’s public health system. Latha’s story stands as an inspiring testament to the countless women breaking barriers in healthcare — proving that dedication, compassion, expertise and accuracy know no gender.

COVID Warrior

Speaking to Star of Mysore on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Latha recalled her journey into clinical service. Armed with a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, she began her career as a Lab Technician in 2015. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Latha rendered selfless service at the COVID Care Centres in Udayagiri and Vishweshwaranagar. “My only purpose was to serve patients, which eventually led to a rise in the number of people visiting our laboratory,” she said.

Latha believes that women are proving their mettle across all sectors, working on par with men and shouldering responsibilities with equal efficiency.

She highlighted the critical role played by women lab technicians during the pandemic, who were at the forefront of testing swab samples — a crucial task in detecting the virus. Their contribution, she said, underscores the significance of laboratory professionals in the healthcare system.

Reflecting on her decade-long career, Latha expressed a deep sense of satisfaction. “Working in a laboratory is no easy task, but this is my profession, and I take pride in it,” she said. A native of Shivamogga, she has built a fulfilling career in Mysuru with the support of the Medical                          Officer and staff at the PHC.
