Making society drug-free is our aim: Dr. Basavaraju

Mysuru: ‘There is lack of awareness among today’s youth about the dangers of drugs including its ill-effects on physical and mental health,’ opined District Surgeon Dr. B. Basavaraju. 

He was speaking after flagging off an awareness rally organised as part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at CPC Polytechnic premises in city recently.

‘Many Indian youths are spoiling their life by getting addicted to alcohol and drugs. Alcohol is the main culprit for one-third of the road accidents happening at night time and also in one-fourth of the cases, alcohol is to be blamed for sexual assault on women,’ he added.

An awareness rally was taken out by the students on the occasion to create awareness among the youth and general public about the ill-effects of drugs. District Mental Health Programme Officer Dr. V. Santosh,  Psychiatrist Dr. A.R. Narendra, CPC Polytechnic Principal H.V. Shivaswamy, Health Department staff and others were present.
