Surrenders at Bilikere Police Station along with machete

Hunsur: A man allegedly hacked his wife to death for not coming back from her parents’ house and later surrendered before Bilikere Police along with the machete he had used to commit the murder. The incident took place at Benkipura village of Bilikere hobli in the taluk yesterday morning.

The deceased woman is Roja (37), daughter of Papanayaka of Benkipura and the accused husband is Swamy Nayaka, son of Peer Nayaka of the same village.

Roja and Swamy Nayaka were married for 14 years and the couple have two sons aged 12 and eight.

It is learnt that Swamy Nayaka was having an illicit affair since about two years and was neglecting his family. Roja, who came to know about this, requested her husband to mend his ways but her pleas had fallen on the deaf ears of her husband. This had resulted in frequent fights between the couple following which the village elders held a panchayat and asked Swamy Nayaka to take care of his family and leave his affair. Though Swamy Nayaka had promised to mend his ways, he did not keep his promise and continued his affair.

Depressed over this, Roja left her husband’s house along with her children and began to stay in her parents’ house following which Swamy Nayaka began to pester and force her to come back to his house which Roja refused.

Yesterday morning, when Roja was filling drinking water from the tap in front of her parents’ house, Swamy Nayaka, who came from behind brutally assaulted Roja on her neck, chest and head with a machete.

Following the attack, Roja, who screamed for help, fell down and began to struggle for her life in a pool of blood.

Neighbours, who heard Roja screaming, rushed to her help and shifted her to a hospital, but she had breathed her last midway, it is learnt.

Meanwhile, Swamy Nayaka, after hacking his wife went to Bilikere Police Station along with a machete and surrendered before the Police.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police (SP) N. Vishnuvardhana, Dy.SP Gopalakrishna, Circle Inspector Lolakshi and staff visited the spot, conducted preliminary investigation and deployed Police personnel at the village.

The body of Roja was shifted to MMC&RI mortuary, where post-mortem will be conducted today and the body will be handed over to the family members later.

Bilikere Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
