Man held for allegedly drowning pregnant wife in river

Nanjangud: Nanjangud Police have taken a man into custody for allegedly drowning his pregnant wife at the bathing ghat of Kapila River in the town on Tuesday night.

While the deceased has been identified as Devika (35), the accused husband is Rajesh of Muddahalli in the taluk.

Devika, daughter of Puttasiddaiah of Kasuvinahalli, was given in marriage to Rajesh five years ago and the couple have two children.

On Tuesday night, Rajesh, who took Devika to the bathing ghat, allegedly pushed her into the river and drowned her. The reason for Rajesh to kill his wife is yet to be known.

Based on the complaint from Puttasiddaiah, Nanjangud Police, who registered a case, have taken Rajesh into custody, said Circle Inspector Lakshmikanth Talawar.
