Man held for poaching and sandalwood theft

Periyapatna: The Forest sleuths arrested a person allegedly involved in poaching of wild animals and sandalwood theft here on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Suresh, a resident of Basaveshwara Colony in Bettadapura village. The Forest sleuths said, his brother Vijay, who was also involved in illegal activities, escaped from the spot. Forest sleuths have recovered 6 kg sandalwood, 740 grams sandalwood pieces and two jaw traps and sickle used for hunting.

RFO Girish said that cases have been booked against both the accused and they were in search of Vijay, who is at large.

DRFO Mallikarjun, Forest Guard Samiullah Khan, Watcher Sakaiah and others took part in nabbing and seizing operation.
