Mysuru: The 7th Additional District and Sessions Court, has sentenced a 32-year-old man to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 15,000 for raping a minor girl in 2012. The person who has been sentenced has been identified as Raju, a resident of Kallahalli hamlet in Sargur taluk.
On Mar. 7, 2012, the 14-year-old girl also of Kallahalli village had come to Kalammathayi Jathre at Hegganuru village without informing her parents. The girl’s mother, who came in search of her, found her there and began to thrash her. Raju, who saw the girl being beaten by her mother, intervened and told the girl’s mother that he would bring her to the village on his bike.
He then took the girl and her brother on his bike to drop them to the village but stopped midway where he allegedly raped the girl. The girl’s brother, who saw this, immediately ran to the village and informed his mother. By the time the girl’s mother arrived at the spot, Raju had fled from the scene.
H.D. Kote Circle Inspector H. Govindaraju, who registered a case in this regard, had submitted the chargesheet against the accused to the Court.
The 7th Additional District and Sessions Court Judge who heard the arguments, found Raju guilty and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment besides imposing a penalty of Rs. 15,000.
Public Prosecutor Mahanthappa argued for the Government.
