Man sentenced to life for killing daughter

September 3, 2019

Mysuru, Sept.3 (SBD&KS)- The city’s Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

The man, who is sentenced, is Hemanth Kumar, a native of Talakad in T. Narasipur taluk, who was residing at Honnegowda Block in Hootagalli here, along with his wife Pavithra and daughter Rityanya. Due to difference in opinions, there were frequent quarrel between the couple and on Nov.20, 2016, the couple had quarrelled regarding going to the wedding ceremony of a relative at Chennarayapatna and had indulged in a wordy duel near the Kalyana Mantap.

Irked over the quarrel, Hemanth had decided to commit suicide and brought his daughter Rityanya to Mysuru without informing anyone.

After reaching Mysuru, Hemanth wrote a death note at the house of a person known to him and took his daughter to the premises of a defunct industry in the industrial area where he slashed both his hands with a blade which he had brought with him.

He later slashed the wrist of his innocent daughter and killed her. He covered the body with dry leaves and clothes and left from the spot. In a bid to destroy evidence, Hemanth had thrown the blade near the old Garm Panchayat building on KRS Road in Koorgalli.

Vijayanagar Police, who had registered a case, conducted investigation and had submitted a charge-sheet to the Court.

Judge Hosamani Pundalika, who heard the arguments from both sides, found Hemanth Kumar guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000.

Public Prosecutors P.B. Dharannevar and L. Nagaraj argued on behalf of the Government.
