Man sentenced to life for killing his sister’s infant daughter

July 16, 2025

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s 6th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of assaulting his sister for not giving money to buy liquor and later killing her infant daughter.

The man, who was sentenced, is K. Raju, son of Siddamma and a resident of Kanakagiri 5th Cross. He had assaulted his sister Ramya, who was staying in the house for post-pregnancy care and later murdered her baby girl.

Siddamma used to sell vegetables to eke out a living and was staying with her children Raju and Ramya. On Mar. 15, 2020, Ramya was given in marriage and in September 2021, she had delivered a baby girl. She had come to her mother’s house for post-pregnancy care.

Raju, who had stopped doing vegetable business, used to come home drunk and pick up fights with his mother and sister and even assault them besides threatening to kill them. He used to break household items and threaten to set the house on fire. Though Ramya used to advice Raju to mend his ways, Raju used to harass his mother and sister mentally and physically.

On Apr. 29, 2022, Raju asked Ramya to give him money to buy liquor. When Ramya denied, Raju threatened to kill her (Ramya) baby girl. When Ramya advised Raju not to drink and spoil his health, Raju began to assault Ramya, who ran out of the house to seek her neighbours’ help. Meanwhile, Raju, who locked the door from inside, broke the TV set and began to create ruckus. He then picked up a weighing scale and a weight and struck on the head, face, chest and back of the baby girl who was sleeping in the cradle, killing the baby brutally.
