May 5, 2025

Mysuru: The Fifth Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a woman.

The man, who was sentenced, is Pramod Kumar, a native of Odisha, who was residing at a rented house in Jayadevanagar 3rd Cross in Mysuru. The deceased is Kaberi Gadai, who was staying with him.

Pramod and Kaberi, had told the house owner that they were couple and have a 14-year-old son. Pramod used to go to a factory for work and was leading a happy life.

Meanwhile, Kaberi developed friendship with one Sachin Kumar of Uttar Pradesh and the duo used to talk and message constantly over the phone resulting in misunderstanding between Pramod and Kaberi.

On Dec. 19, 2023, Pramod had warned Kaberi against speaking with Sachin, but still Kaberi continued to talk with Sachin leading to quarrels between Pramod and Kaberi. On the night of Jan. 2, 2024, when Kaberi was speaking over the phone while preparing dinner, Pramod caught her hair and began to pull her. Her son, who heard the commotion, rushed to the rescue of his mother. But Pramod, who took a knife from the kitchen, cut Kaberi’s neck and killed her.

A case was registered at Metagalli Police Station and the then Inspectors A. Mallesh and Shantharam, conducted investigations and had submitted a chargesheet to the Court.

Judge Gururaj Somakkalavar, who took up the case, heard the arguments from both sides, found Pramod Kumar guilty of the crime and sentenced him to life imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs. 10,000.
