Mysuru: The admissions to LKG and I std., in both Government and Private Schools, have dropped considerably after it has been made mandatory to submit birth certificates of children.
This year, the Department of Public Instructions has made 3 years 10 months as the minimum age for admission to LKG and 5 years 10 months minimum age for I std. as per the instructions of the State Government.
It has also been made compulsory to submit the Aadhaar card of the children which has denied an opportunity for parents to change the date of birth of their wards to seek admission. The authorities record the date of birth, in case of a female child, while issuing the Bhagyalakshmi bond.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, DDPI H.R. Basappa said: “Earlier, there were provisions in laws to provide education to everyone on humanitarian grounds. But, now the State Government has enforced strict rules related to admission which had contributed to low admission rates. This has also been brought to the notice of the concerned authorities in the State Government.”
