Mandya farmers demand release of water to canals

July 22, 2017

Mandya: Demanding release of water to Cauvery canals and filling up of major water bodies in the district, farmers belonging to one faction of the KRRS staged a demonstration in front of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam (CNN) office here yesterday.

Hundreds of farmers, who converged on the CNN office after arriving in a procession on bullock carts on Mysuru-Bengaluru High Way, raised slogans demanding immediate release of Cauvery water in canals.

Questioning the release of water to Tamil Nadu when the KRS Dam was only half-full, the protesters wondered whether the CNN was in favour of Tamil Nadu.

The farmers warned of intensifying their protest if the authorities failed to release water to canals.

In another protest over the same issue, farmers belonging to the other faction of the KRRS led by Borapura Shankaregowda, staged a demonstration in front of the DC’s office. Earlier, they marched in a procession from Silver Jubilee Park to the DC’s office.
