Mangalore Fire and Safety Institute gets NSDC recognition

June 6, 2019

Mysuru: Mangalore  Institute of Fire and Safety Engineering (MIFSE), which started the courses in the safety sector for the first time in the State in 2007, has in the last 13 years opened 12 branches in different parts of the country and been responsible for guiding thousands of students to get jobs. The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), recognising the work of MIFSE in providing training to students in fire and safety aspects and creating job opportunities, has given recognition to the institute.

The agreement for this special recognition was signed by MIFSE Managing Director Vinod K. John and NSDC Managing Director Manish Kumar on May 3. According to this special agreement, from this coming academic year, the students who pass out of Fire and Safety courses will get MIFSE and NSDC joint certificate. In the future, the students who pass out of this course will not only be eligible to get jobs in the country but also easily get jobs abroad because of this special recognition.

MIFSE, which started the course in 2007 with recognition from Karnataka Government in Mangaluru, had just 25 students in the first batch. However, the Institute was successful in 100 percent placements.

Later, with recognition of Mangalore University, MIFSE started offering Diploma in Fire and Industrial Safety. Hundreds of students who passed out were immediately able to get jobs abroad.

In 2009, MIFSE opened branches in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Shivamogga, Davangere and Udupi and started offering Diploma and PG Diploma in Fire and Safety courses. In 2013, it got the recognition of University of Mysore and began Diploma and PG Diploma in HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) courses. Recognising this, the World Achievers Organisation presented the Indian Education Excellence Award – 2015 and Asian Education Summit Award – 2016 and thus, MIFSE was identified as the first institute in Fire and Safety institute in the country to get this recognition.

In 2016, through Bangalore University it offered Diploma and PG Diploma in Industrial & Construction Safety Management. Besides in 2017 for the first time, it offered a degree course through Kuvempu University for its students. With the recognition from NSDC, it will help MIFSE to grow not only at the national level but at the international level too, said Vinod John.
