Manual Scavenging: Safai Karmachari Commission issues notice to MCC seeking explanation

Mysuru: The Karnataka Safai Karmachari Commission, Bengaluru, has issued a notice to Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) seeking explanation about the manual scavenging incident that took place in city recently.

Acting suo-moto on the issue, the Commission has sent a notice to MCC demanding an explanation from the MCC authorities.

Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act 2013, under Section 7 and 9, it is punishable to employ people as manual scavengers and a case can be registered against the culprits.

The photos of two workers indulging in manual scavenging on Ambedkar Road in Ashokapuram here had gone viral which had received severe criticism from several quarters.
