‘Mathru Poorna’ scheme to be implemented in district

September 4, 2017

Mysuru: The State Government’s ambitious ‘Mathru Poorna’ scheme, aimed at providing nutritious food to pregnant women and post-natal mothers will soon be implemented across the district.

Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director K. Radha, speaking to SOM, said that it was found that Rice, Wheat, Sugar and Jaggery being distributed to pregnant women and post-natal mothers, was shared among all family members of the beneficiary. As such, many pregnant women became deprived of nutritious food, resulting in the birth of abnormal children.

The Chief Minister upon coming to know of this scenario came up with ‘Mathru Poorna’ scheme, which aims to provide nutritious food at all Angananwadi centres on the lines of mid-day meal scheme for children, she said.

Stating that the scheme has already been implemented on an experimental basis in H.D. Kote Anganawadi Centres, Radha said that the scheme will be introduced at all taluk headquarters of the district from Oct. 2.

The implementation of the scheme that aims at providing vitaminous foods to pregnant women and post-natal mothers, will largely help in the birth of healthy children, she said and added that all measures will be taken to ensure the success of the scheme in the district.

Meanwhile, the Anganwadi workers have expressed reservations over the implementation of the scheme through Anganawadi centres.

Claiming that the pilot project introduced in H.D. Kote taluk has been a failure, the Anganawadi workers wondered whether conservative communities would send pregnant women and post-natal mothers to anganawadi centres. They also said that the previous system should be allowed to continue.
